Samsung NX300 Camera - Samsung has just announced the the 3D photography-capable Samsung NX300 camera, the latest member of its 'NX' line of mirrorless, interchangeable lens cameras.
Announced in the lead up to next's week's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013, the camera builds on the foundation of its predecessors while incorporating new technologies that is sure to make the act of taking and sharing pictures better than ever.
So, what of the new camera NX300?
For starters, anyone familiar with the 'NX' line will notice that this camera looks a lot like its predecessors, which is a good thing for any current owner looking to upgrade as there will be less of a learning curve. Under the hood (so to speak) though, there are many significant upgrades.
First up: an all-new 20Mp APS-C chip, which is among the highest resolution on the sub-frame market. While the extra pixels are nice, the real headliner for serious hooters is an all-new AF system that incorporates phase detection on the sensor itself, promising for faster, more accurate focus in the toughest of photographic situations. To help the sensor capture unforgettable images, Samsung has beefed up the specifications, allowing for ISOs up to 25,600, 9 frames per second, and a 1/6000th top shutter speed. For video fans, the NX300 can do full 1080p HD video at a blazing-fast 60 frames per second.
Moving onto the process end of things, Samsung has equipped the NX300 with its largest-yet seen on a camera screen: a 3.3” touch-capable OLED monitor that boasts a 768,000 dot resolution. In addition, the screen also tilts, too.
For people who like to share their pictures immediately, the NX300 boasts updates wi-fi connectivity that allows users to share their photos instantly and securely between their camera, smartphone, and tablet.
To connect a smartphone/tablet to the camera, users simply need to download the Samsung SMART CAMERA App., which is available for both Android and iOS based application markets, onto their smartphone/tablet. The NX300 will then be able to detect and auto-connect to the smartphone/tablet wirelessly whenever any of the SMART CAMERA features are activated.
The SMART CAMERA App. also features a Remote Viewfinder function for the NX300, allowing for even more inventive and exciting photography. The NX300 will also lets users share images with friends and family directly from the camera via social networking sites and/or store them in the cloud through AllShare Play.
Last but not least: 3D shooting. To set the record straight, the camera itself is not capable of taking 3D images/movies by itself, but only with a special 2/3D version of the 45mm f1.8 lens that has been optimized for such this purpose. When coupled with this one of a kind interchangeable optic, the NX300 Camera becomes the first large-sensor camera in the world capable of taking both 2 and 3 dimensional still and video images.
Want a NX300 yet?
As for availability, that is still a bit in the dark. The good news: Samsung has already announced a price for the Samsung NX300 camera: $749. As for the 3D-capable 45mm lens, NX300 price will sell for $499 (vs. $299 for the standard version).
